Calasetta is a charming seaside village located on the island of Sant'Antioco, in the south-west of Sardinia. The historic centre is built around the Torre Sabauda, an ancient fortification built in the 18th century for coastal defence, now a privileged vantage point over the port and the Sardinian Sea. The beaches surrounding Calasetta are renowned for the purity of the water and the fineness of the sand: among them, the Saline beach stands out, extensive and bright, particularly appreciated by those seeking an unspoilt natural setting. The lighthouse warns sailors coming from the Spanish coast and the island of San Pietro of a particularly dangerous stretch of sea. According to one legend, the name Mangiabarche derives from the appearance of the shallows and rocks, which are said to resemble the teeth of a sea monster.
